1) Plugs: pull and check gap at least, check deposits, clean, put back in. 2) Plug wires: Replace if lifetime warranty wires, if not check by spraying wires with household cleaner, and watching at night with engine idling. 3) PCV valve: often overlooked, and it's vacuum line is the cause of many low idle/stumbling issues.

If the new battery was connected it might have old data in its memory that prevents it starting. Try disconnecting the negative battery lead and leave it off for 1 hour. Then connect it back up. Leave it for 10 minutes and then click the ignition on for 10 mins.

Its a known issue and cars up to 03/02 had an EGR valve fitted that sticks open, causing starting problems and black smoke. Ford have a TSB about it. You should never jump start a dead focus with another car the focus can put out up to 18v enough to fry another cars ecu although its rare and people do it all the time..not so convinced its just the battery 10.72 suggests the battery has had it but it should still turn so it may be the starter as suggested had a battery at 10.4 that still

In fact the ignition does not seem to even switch on. (I have the start button model). The battery was only reading 12v , so i charged it all day and still nothing.
7 posts · Joined 2017. #1 · Sep 21, 2017. Typical story, was driving fine, then parked it and next time I went out to start it: nothing. No click, no nothing. Hit up the usual suspects first, took a look at the starter and found the grounding strap between the solenoid and starter was almost gone. Must be that, I thought.
Went to go out again and nothing. It turns over but just won't catch. I plugged in the laptop and no error codes. The pump at the back of the engine seems to be making a loud metallic noise which I'm guessing is because its bone dry where I been trying multiple times to get it started. I hear this noise a few seconds after I turn the ignition off.
