As the heart of the EGR system, the EGR valve reduces the overall NOx emissions that leave the tailpipe. Common symptoms of a bad EGR valve include a lit check engine light, engine performance problems, and spark knock. There are three steps to testing the EGR valve: checking DTCs, carrying out a visual inspection, and testing the valve itself.
A stuck-open EGR valve causes the same symptoms as vacuum leaks. Often, problems with an EGR valve that is stuck open are more noticeable after driving on the highway. For example, a car may stall when stopping after exiting the highway. A bad EGR valve must be replaced ($50-$320 part, plus $90-$320 labor). Read more: EGR valve: problems
Location: UK. Posts: 36. 3.0d Turbo Pressure Convertor Valve. Hi All, So I don't appear to have any boost on my 3.0d. Using a vacuum pump directly on actuator on the turbo itself it's holds about 23 Hg and I can see the rod clearly move. Removing the vacuum suddenly results in a mechanical clunk - so I think the wastegate/VVT is moving ok.
A BMW X3 which had the engine light on the dash. This was the same fault as the Holden, the EGR valve had failed. This had to be replaced to rectify the fault. Once replaced and tested the vehicle was running 100% again. So if your vehicle has its engine light on, or suspect an EGR problem call your local mobile mechanic.
In the case of the P042F, the valve appears (to the PCM) to be stuck in the closed position. The designation A applies to a particular position or stage of the step-down EGR valve control system, which is explained below. The EGR system is responsible for allowing the engine to consume a portion of the unburned fuel from the exhaust system.
Our 2011 X3 with a bit over 30K miles, has experienced no issues other than a small hesitation issue cured by a software update. It's really down to luck or lack of it. I'd say the EGR valve is a one-off problem, not indicative of a systemic issue. BMW engines have a good reputation and there hasn't been a rash of EGR failures reported in the

That "duck noise" is typical for a failed EGR vacuum solenoid like you already figured out. If you don't have diagnostics check the engine coolant temp on cluster hidden menu. It should be near 90 C. Low running temps can make consumption worse and eventually causes problems with DPF. Hey guys, Does anyone one know why my car ( 07 BMW X5 E70 3

This is quite common problem with modern Diesel vehicles these days and that's EGR valve. In this case it's BMW X1 18XD with only 25K miles but the EGR valv
